Description
The Bloor pilot bike lane, running 2.4 km between Shaw St. and Avenue Rd., was made permanent by a 36-6 council vote on November 7, 2017 after a one-year pilot for the initiative, which was described by the City Transportation Manager as the most-studied road project in North America.

The pilot showed that cycling numbers had increased dramatically and business revenues had also grown. The number of cars on Bloor has declined while motorist travel times are up only marginally. The bike lane had substantial support not only from residents who cycle but from all local residents’ associations (particularly the ARA), the media, various community groups, including Bells on Bloor, Cycle Toronto and Doctors for Safe Cycling, and the local Bloor-Annex BIA. Extensions of the bike lane east to High Park and west to Sherbourne are already under discussion and further studies are anticipated to begin shortly.
The popularity of Bloor St. for bicycling can be traced back to the 1890s.
